Shower Sealing Service!

Shower leaks are often underestimated until they begin causing visible damage throughout the home. Water escaping through small gaps in grout lines, sealants, or tile joints can gradually penetrate below the tiles to an already failed waterproofing membrane.

Once water finds a weak or breached point within the waterproofing, it can travel beyond the shower area into surrounding structures, including wall frames, subfloors, and even ceilings below in multi-level homes. Over time, this hidden moisture can weaken structural components and lead to extensive repair or renovation works, often costing tens of thousands of dollars.

Persistent moisture beneath tiled surfaces and within wall cavities can also create the ideal conditions for mould and mildew growth. This not only affects the appearance of the shower but may also impact the overall air quality within the home. Addressing leaking showers early helps prevent moisture from spreading into adjacent areas and reduces the likelihood of larger, more costly repairs later.

In essence, professional shower sealing is so important because it acts as the first line of defence, helping stop water from penetrating below the tiles to a potentially already failed waterproofing membrane. By limiting moisture beneath the tiles, it can also help reduce the risk of tiles lifting or cracking over time, while improving the overall appearance of the shower.

A properly maintained and sealed shower plays an important role in protecting the integrity of the entire property. Professional shower sealing works help reinforce vulnerable areas, providing ongoing protection against daily exposure to water, steam, and normal levels of movement, all without the need to remove tiles where suitable.

How It Works

Where suitable, following our thorough on-site inspection, our exclusive Shower Sealing System targets and seals surface leaks at their source without removing tiles.

We conduct a thorough on-site assessment to locate all potential leak sources, including tiles, grout, seals, junctions, drains, and screens. We also try to identify possible issues in relation to pre-existing damage or design issues that could affect works required.

Where a shower is determined to be suitable for our (UBT) Shower Sealing System, damaged grout and deteriorated sealants are carefully removed from between the tiles, as required and in accordance with the quoted scope of works, before the area is prepared for regrouting and sealing. Where possible & part of work scopes, cracked or loose tiles may also be repaired or re-glued as part of this process.

Depending on the quoted scope of works, part or all of the shower is regrouted and sealed using specialised grouts, sealing products and, where applicable, protective surface treatments designed to help prevent moisture penetration. As every shower is unique, the work required and products used will vary depending on its condition.

Please note: The above process refers to our Ultra Bond shower sealing system only. Where a shower has excessive damage, loose or cracked tiles, or underlying structural issues, we may recommend alternative solutions such as waterproofing and tiling works, or full shower renovation services.

What We Fix with Shower Sealing

Grout and sealants form the first line of defence in a tiled shower. When these begin to fail, water can penetrate beneath the surface of the tiles to an already failed waterproofing membrane below, leading to more serious issues over time. Daily use, ongoing moisture, and minor structural movement can all contribute to the deterioration of grout and sealants across multiple areas of a shower.

Our Shower Sealing service targets the most common leakage points using specialised products, tools, and proven methods designed to restore protection and help reduce ongoing leakage and subsequent damage.

Shower Sealing FAQs

The fundamental goal of our Ultra Bond Technology Shower Sealing System is to stop water from penetrating beneath the tiles and reaching an already compromised waterproofing membrane, allowing water to instead run safely to the drain.

Where suitable, our professional shower sealing process is designed to save homeowners and property managers time, money, and unnecessary hassle.

Our shower sealing service is typically completed within 2.5 to 5 hours, depending on the size of the shower and the services required. In most cases, the shower can be used again within 24 to 48 hours.

Compared to renovation-style works, shower sealing is significantly faster, far less disruptive, and much more cost-effective. Full renovation works can take weeks, and in some cases months, depending on the scope of work and the contractors involved.

Before explaining how professionals apply shower sealing, it’s important to understand that the inspection process is just as critical as the repair itself.

At Shower Sealed, our team is trained in our Ultra Bond Technology Shower Sealing System and specialised procedures. Our aim is to identify and target the most likely leakage points within the shower recess, then carry out the most appropriate works based on the overall condition of the shower.

Professional shower sealing is not simply about applying products. It involves understanding the problem, diagnosing the likely cause of the leak, assessing whether the shower is suitable for sealing, and then applying the correct procedures and materials to achieve the best possible outcome.

As a general guide, showers should be inspected every 2 to 3 years so that any issues with grout, sealants, drainage, or early signs of leakage can be identified before they become more serious.

Regular inspections are important not only from a maintenance point of view, but also because many insurance companies may not cover shower-related damage if they determine the shower has not been properly maintained. In some cases, they may attribute the damage to deteriorated grout, failing sealants, or a lack of ongoing maintenance.

Where required, professional shower sealing can then be carried out to restore protection and help prevent water from penetrating below the tiles.

By identifying issues early and addressing them with appropriate shower sealing or repairs, homeowners and property managers can often avoid more extensive damage and significantly reduce long-term repair costs.

Yes, where a shower is suitable, professional shower sealing can be an effective way to help stop minor leaks by preventing water from continuing to travel beneath the tiles.

In many cases, if you are already seeing damage to surrounding areas, it may indicate that the waterproofing membrane below the tiles has failed or that water is bypassing the waterproofed area. By applying shower sealing correctly, water can be redirected back to the drain instead of continuing to escape into surrounding structures.

In many cases, the results of professional shower sealing can be seen relatively quickly. Visible leakage may stop, and areas that were previously wet may begin to dry out over time.

One important exception is a shower built on a concrete slab. If the shower has been leaking for an extended period, there can be a significant amount of trapped moisture within the slab that is not immediately visible. Because this moisture is not exposed to air, it can take time to dry naturally, in some cases 3, 6, or even 12 months, even after the shower sealing process has been successful.

This is why the repair itself, and the drying-out process can sometimes be two separate things. While the shower sealing may have stopped the source of the leak, the remaining moisture may still take time to fully dissipate.

In most cases, yes. Where a shower is suitable, professional shower sealing is generally a fraction of the cost of more extensive works such as waterproofing and tiling, shower renovations, or full bathroom renovations.

Because shower sealing focuses on stopping water at the surface and preventing it from penetrating below the tiles, it can often provide a fast and cost-effective solution without the need for major demolition or rebuild works.

As a general guide, our shower sealing services typically range from $495 to $995, depending on the size and condition of the shower and the work required.
